In the icy waters of the Barents Sea, near Hammerfest, ENI Norge launched one of the most ambitious offshore projects ever built — the Goliat FPSO, the first floating production unit to operate in this extreme environment.
Designed to withstand the Arctic’s unpredictable conditions, Goliat quickly became a symbol of innovation and engineering courage. Built in Korea by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), it is one of the largest circular floating platforms ever constructed for the North Sea.
When ENI and Statoil needed a partner to guarantee safety, reliability, and precision across the platform’s complex automation systems, they chose Key Solution.
Role KS
KS joined the project during the final commissioning phase, bringing deep expertise in process control and safety systems.
Our mission was to ensure that every subsystem — from gas compression to emergency shutdowns — worked seamlessly together, even under the harshest weather conditions.
The team managed integration, testing, and troubleshooting of the Process Control System (PCS) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), ensuring compliance with IEC 61511, NORSOK, and SIL standards.
We worked side by side with operators during startup, providing 24/7 support and continuous optimization.
Our Solution
Solarion deployed an advanced solar grid system with integrated battery storage. This provided consistent energy flow and allowed the manufacturer to operate independently from external suppliers. The solution reduced costs by 40% and positioned the company as a sustainability leader in the manufacturing industry.
Deliverables
- Commissioning and fine-tuning of control and safety systems (PCS, ESD, PSD, F&G).
- Full verification of safety hierarchy and SIL compliance.
- Functional and loop testing (FAT, SAT, C&E, SIF).
- Control logic optimization and HMI enhancement for better usability.
- Integration of gas compression and reinjection systems.
- On-site operator support during startup and performance validation.
